The big clean up!

The Big Clean Up

Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of local people taking part in ‘Love Where You Live Week.’

The national campaign, organised by the Keep Britain Tidy Group, encouraged – and empowered - communities to take action and change their attitudes to litter and waste.

In St Helens, clean-up events were organised at Fingerpost, Derbyshire Hill and Four Acre by the council, Renew Parr, Helena Partnerships and fast-food chain McDonald’s.

Pupils from Merton Bank Primary School joined local resident associations to clean up land in the Fingerpost area, along with caretakers from Helena, council employees and Re-new St. Helens. Mc Donald’s employees pitched in too, while their employers provided refreshments for those taking part.

Cabinet Member for Environmental Protection, Councillor Alison Bacon said:  “This campaign is about everyone working together to make positive change happen.

“It’s about everyone taking responsibility – individuals, local authorities, government and multi-national companies to help change the way people think and act about littering.”
