Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner
Jane Kennedy is the Police and Crime Commissioner for
Merseyside. She was elected by a public vote on 15 November 2012
and took up office on 22 November 2012.
On May 6th, 2016, Jane was re-elected to serve a second term as
Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner after securing 61.7% of
the public vote.
The Police and Crime Commissioner:
- will provide a strong and powerful voice for communities and
represent views about how crime is prevented and its consequences
are tackled.
- has a statutory duty to set a Police and Crime Plan for
Merseyside and a budget that focuses on working in partnership to
cut crime, as well as maintaining an efficient and effective police
force.
- is able to commission services from outside the police
force.
- works with the Chief Constable, Andy Cooke, and local partners
such as St.Helens Council, Merseyside Probation, health, education
and local voluntary organisations to fulfil their commitments to
not only fight crime and antisocial behaviour, but to prevent it,
in order to deliver safer streets for the
community.
