Good Guys to clean up the Borough!
Good Guys to clean up the Borough!
People in St Helens are being urged to support Safer St Helens Operation Good Guy campaign once again this year.
St Helens Council, and its Crime Reduction Partners, will be on hand throughout the borough removing combustible materials, general rubbish and bonfire materials from all public spaces, open grounds, parks and gardens. The campaign was launched on Saturday 17th October, when a highly visible ‘Ad-Van’ parked in Church Square, St Helens City Centre.
Last year, the Good Guy campaign saw over 251 tons of combustible material removed from the borough and a 37.5% reduction in firework related Anti-Social Behaviour calls to Merseyside Police. Following on from this success, residents are encouraged to report any potential build up of bonfire material; gas cylinders and accumulation of rubbish in general, to the Council’s contact Centre.
Councillor Teresa Sims, Executive Member for Safer Communities, says, “Firework and bonfire abuse can cause serious injuries to people and damage to properties. Operation Good Guy is all about making sure that people within the borough can enjoy bonfire night safely and sensibly. It is important that we work together to maintain a cleaner and safer environment during the bonfire period. Please contact the helplines to report any build up of combustible materials and firework misuse. I would also recommend attending professionally organised firework events, rather than buy your own fireworks. It’s safer, cheaper and more fun for all the family!"
St Helens Council will be running ‘Spark in the Park’ on Sunday 1st November from 7:00pm at Sherdley Park, where a dazzling display will light up the sky, choreographed to music. Admission to the event is free. You can report bonfires and potential bonfire material to the Contact Centre on 01744 456789 or via the Council’s website on www.sthelens.gov.uk. Please report the illegal use or the sale of fireworks to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or direct to the Police on 0151 709 6010
