Driving Out Vehicle Nuisance

motorbikeThere are a number of locations throughout St. Helens that attract ramblers, tourists, dog walkers & children.

During the summer holidays, there is usually an increase in the number of calls Merseyside Police receive relating to the use of motorbikes and quad bikes. Using motorbikes or quads on such public open spaces / roads is illegal and causes great danger to these legitimate users.

To tackle this issue cycle patrols were deployed daily throughout August to patrol the problem locations. Anyone found riding a motorbike / quad illegally or anti-socially, where appropriate can have their vehicle seized by the Police or be prosecuted. Section 34 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it an offence to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle (which includes motorbikes, mini-motors and quad bikes which are not road legal) without lawful authority on common land, moorland or land not forming part of a road, or on any road, which is a footpath, bridleway or restricted byway.

If you have any information in relation to the illegal use of motorbikes / quads or where they are being stored, please contact your local policing team on 0151 709 6010, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
