Clean sweep on Knowsley Road

Knowsley Road residents took to the streets last weekend during a community clean-up campaign!

The event, organised by crime fighting agencies forming the St. Helens Community Safety Partnership (CSP) - including Merseyside Police, St. Helens Council and Helena Homes - saw local families teaming up with members of the United Reformed Church to clean up their community and the area surrounding the church.

Younger residents, equipped with brooms and cleaning equipment, packed litter and rubbish into skips provided by Helena Homes and were rewarded with free cinema tickets and a certificate from their local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Councillor Sue Murphy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Safer Communities and Youth Said, "It’s everyone’s responsibility to take care of their local environment.

"Community safety partners have held a number of community clean up campaigns throughout the borough, and residents are always eager to take part and improve their area. We commend the residents of Knowsley Road for their efforts."

Jennifer Morris, Neighbourhood Officer for Helena Homes, added: "The community clean up was an ideal opportunity to get all residents involved to help promote community cohesion and encourage people to take pride in where they live. It was great to see people of all ages working together and really creating a community atmosphere.

"This area previously had an issue with anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping, so working with partners from the police and council over the last few months to improve the area with clean-ups and awareness raising of the issues, has drastically changed the neighbourhood."
