Christmas crime prevention
Elderly and vulnerable shoppers were given some tips and tricks to help thwart potential bag snatchers in the lead up to Christmas, as the Pursewatch campaign launched in St Helens town centre.
As well as practical advice, police Community Support Officers, council officials and representatives from St Helens Chamber proactively handed out special purse bells and purse snatch cables to make things harder for potential offenders.
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Safer Communities and Youth, Councillor Sue Murphy said: “Although crime continues to fall in St. Helens – as we all get into the festive spirit – buying presents and rushing around the shops – unfortunately this can cause a perfect distraction for some. By taking a few simple steps – and being alert to the possible risks - we can all do a lot to cut the risk of crime”
Protect yourself – cut the risk of theft by:
- Only carrying what you actually need in your handbag!
- Keeping your bag zipped and close to you.
- Not leaving any items unattended.
- Keeping cash secure and out of sight.
