Men caught on camera
Town centre CCTV cameras in St.Helens have had further success
in helping police to track down suspects keeping streets
safe.
Over the weekend camera operators spotted two young men acting
suspiciously near to the Argos store on the Hall Street side.
They were seen to be going back and forward to two BMX cycles which
had been left secured by lock and chain on a cycle stand.
When a member of the public walked past, they would move away
from the bikes but return when the 'coast was clear'.
The males were seen to kick at the locks/chains and CCTV staff
immediately informed the police and relayed the images direct to
the Police control room.
The locks eventually snapped releasing the bikes and the two
rode off towards George Street. Four cameras were used to
track their movements and inform the police of the direction they
had taken. As the two stopped on the canal bank to watch an
angler land a fish, police patrols caught up with them and they
were arrested with both cycles being recovered
