Good Guys dismantle potential 30ft high bonfire!
Caption: Potentially dangerous bonfire removed as part
of Good Guy campaign
A 30 ft high stack of timber has been discovered and dismatled
as part of the 'Be the Good Guy' campaign - which aims to remove
dangerous flammable materials in the run-up to bonfire night.
The potential bonfire was discovered by Special Constables on
foot patrol in Newton-le-Willows and removed by St.Helens Council
staff as part of the Good Guy drive.
Emergengy crews have warned that street bonfires can be
dangerous and unpredictable and can easily spread to nearby fences,
buildings and homes. Local businesses have also been
contacted with a view to securing flammable materials so they do
not become available to people wanting items to burn.
Local community safety partner agencies are pushing the
message - 'bin it, don't burn it' and are encouraging residents to
attend organised bonfires and to report the build-up of street
combustible waste to St.Helens Council on 01744 676789.
You can also vote for the campaign in the National
Home Office 2012 Tilley Awards. The award highlights crime-fighting
projects, and the Good Guy initiative has been
shortlisted.
Time is running out - just like X Factor, the winner
will be the one who attracts the most votes. Just log on
