Brian's pledge wins coveted prize
Retired
engineer and Saints fan Brian Hughes received the perfect Christmas
present after lending his support to a campaign aimed at ending
domestic violence against women.
Brian was one of hundreds of local men who signed an online
pledge to support this year's White Ribbon Day - organised by the
White Ribbon Campaign, who campaign globally to ensure men take
more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against
women. Men show their support by wearing the white ribbon.
In St.Helens, Saints star Paul Wellens, sponsored by the
St.Helens Safer Communities Partnership, donated his signed 2012
shirt to the campaign as a draw prize for those signing the
pledge. Brian's name was first out of the hat.
"I enjoyed receiving the shirt," he said, "but more importantly
I was delighted to support the campaign. I am against any violence
towards women, and if I can encourage better treatment and respect
toward women among young or older men - then I'm pleased to
assist."
